Adult Swim's Leading New Show of This Year Earns a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
