Miami recorded eighty-six first-half scores against the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat earned a decisive 146-114 victory over the Grizzlies in their first basketball game after player Terry Rozier was detained for alleged illegal sports betting.

Trail Blazers coach Billups was additionally detained as part of a broad federal probe into sports betting. The two individuals contest the allegations.

But, the Heat were not distracted as they scored eighty-six opening half points to be ahead of Memphis by 39 at halftime, the biggest halftime lead in the franchise's 37-year existence.

Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 scores and later said Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Full support," Adebayo said. "We are with him all the way. He's like family at the end of the day."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Rozier is somebody who is important to everyone. He has made a beneficial influence on our team.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces the situation."

The Trail Blazers also won their first game after the detentions, with Brazilian Splitter taking over as temporary head coach in Billups' non-attendance and leading the team to a decisive 139-119 win against the Golden State Warriors.

"We all had great experiences with Chauncey and his coaching style," Tiago remarked. "Our thoughts are with him and his family but we have a job to do."

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Addressing the arrests for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Silver stated he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

The commissioner further mentioned an NBA investigation into the player's actions in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the authorities and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We then looked into that situation and were open about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.

"Therefore, we've been working with them since then. Naturally, what they revealed recently was an charge.

"Moreover two and a half years after, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in fairness to Terry.

"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise in this case between upholding rights and investigating."

In other games, Lakers player Luka Doncic recorded more than 40 points for the second game straight to start the season.

After racking up 43 points in a first loss to the Golden State, the Slovenian put up forty-nine scores - to go with 11 rebounds and 8 passes - as the Lakers defeated the Timberwolves 128 to 110.

From Greece forward Giannis Antetokounmpo also had a big night with 31 points, twenty boards and 7 assists in the Milwaukee Bucks' 122 to 116 victory over the Raptors.

Rockets were beaten 115-111 by the Pistons despite 37 scores from Kevin Durant, while Victor Wembanyama had twenty-nine points, eleven rebounds and 9 blocks in the San Antonio Spurs' extra-time victory against the New Orleans.
