People have assembled across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted assault on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are considered accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"The aggressive opponents have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister added on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the release of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities postponed official remembrance events until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of people killed in the Hamas assault was held in the coastal city. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired across Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was held around the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams convened in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the proposal.

A senior Palestinian official knowledgeable about the talks said that an late session of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The official said the earlier meeting ended without concrete outcomes, amid disagreements over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the talks are "difficult and have yet to produce any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are working hard to reduce the gaps between the both parties.

Key Points in Negotiations

  • An enduring truce
  • The exchange of the hostages still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • After-conflict management of the area

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, young Hagar - whose family member endured the attack on the gathering, where 378 people were killed and dozens more were abducted by Hamas fighters - shared: "Nowhere seems like home now and until every captive return not a single person will feel safe."

"When we see all home once more, we can feel relief once more. Then we can begin to heal," she concluded.

In front of the prime minister's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their support for the families of the captives. Israel reports 48 continue in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be living.

Activist one woman explained: "It's necessary do any agreement required for the captives to be released. But we truly desire promises that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately 70% of the population prefer the conflict to finish in return for the release of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of the music event, grieving people came together to pay their respects.

From the site, the sound of military attacks and explosions could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people said the severe Israeli shelling continued.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were noted in the early hours of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr areas and in the east side district of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"Once the night falls, the anxiety comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was died by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, holding each other, especially my youngest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Every second we check the reports to see developments. And I'm worried that this halt will not be finalized and that the fighting will resume to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had received the remains of six people by the daytime, including several who died in an Israeli bombing in the south part district.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis reported additional fatalities had been brought there. An individual was died by Israeli soldiers while looking for aid to the southern area, medical staff stated.
