Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
